The Fruit of a Chicken Farmer

The Fruit of a Chicken Farmer

Over the past 4 years I have been trying to imagine, quantify, and plan how we are going to encourage the stewardship of land, food, and family. Our world pressures business plans, profits, and systems to produce the goal and I could not conform. I could not package my vision into a little clean profit producing machine. We have decided to just start walking it out, little by little and letting the vision grow organically as we are faithful to do what has been set before us. Finally this month we have seen how just being a “chicken farmer” can change lives producing fruit while encouraging the stewardship of land, food, and family.

We were asked to be in a documentary about epiphanies so we said yes and went about our daily work. In the process of making the film and doing what was set before us we meet Rama Pfeiffer. Since that meeting on one very spiritual day during filming she has created Freshly Grown which tells her story of how that day changed her life. I believe all she needed was encouragement and an experience on the farm. We did not set out to do anything amazing, it was all part of the bigger picture. Lives are being changed as we do what we are called to do and as a result of what we carry. As Rama now does her part of what she is called to do, lives will be changed around her. I expect to see much fruit from Rama and she will affect many people in this world around food and how we can learn to care for it.

Sometimes we get caught in up trying to figure out how to make an impact or a way to measure how we are making a difference in this world that we can’t see we are already influencing those around us. Usually just doing something you are passionate about has the greatest affect without even trying.  I am so excited to see Rama go after what is inside of her and see her passion about our food system realized.  I hope that you will take a moment to read her story and check back to see how she GROWS!

Reflect on the ways you are making an impact on the land, food, and your family around you. What are your passions that are already making a difference that you may not have noticed or cannot measure? Maybe it’s time to redefine the worlds definition of profit and success.
